DEI – University of Minho received the 7th edition of the Electronic Engineering Conferences 2025 JEE05

From February 17 to 20, 2025, the University of Minho hosted the 7th edition of the Electronic Engineering Days (JEE25). Organized by the Student Association of Industrial Electronic Engineering and Computers (NEEEICUM), the event took place at the Azurém campus in Guimarães, bringing together students, professionals, and industry-leading companies.

With 24 participating companies, the event was supported by renowned sponsors, including Synopsys, DST Group, Inovaria, Petrotec, CEiiA, Vishay, and Leica, strengthening the link between academia and the industry. JEE25 offered students a unique opportunity for networking, access to lectures, workshops, and company visits, making it one of the most significant events for the training and employability of future engineers.

On February 17, 2025, the opening ceremony of JEE25 took place at the University of Minho’s Azurém campus. The event welcomed distinguished figures from the field of electronic engineering, underlining the importance of fostering collaboration between academia and industry.

The session was opened by the President of NEEEICUM, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the association’s commitment to providing students with an enriching experience.

Following this, Professor Cristina Santos, Director of the Master’s in Industrial Electronic Engineering, highlighted the importance of academic training combined with innovation and industry connections, preparing students for the sector’s challenges.

José Rui Gomes, IT Manager and collaborator in JEE25’s organization, also participated, reinforcing the event’s importance in students’ professional development and thanking everyone involved for their dedication in making it a success.

On February 18, 2025, the JEE25 Job Fair brought together leading companies in the sector to connect students with potential employers. The event featured renowned companies, offering networking opportunities, business pitches, and speed interviews, providing students with their first direct contact with the job market.

The job fair stood out as an essential moment for Industrial Electronic Engineering and Computer students, offering insights into career paths, technological trends, and direct recruitment opportunities.

On February 19, 2025, JEE25 featured a series of talks on strategic topics, including “Leadership in the Digital Era,” “Industry 4.0 vs. 5.0,” “Artificial Intelligence and Its Ethical Challenges,” and “Electronics in Space.”

The opening session at 2:30 PM was attended by the Director of the Department of Industrial Electronics, Professor Dr. Carlos Silva, and the President of the School of Engineering, Professor Dr. Pedro Arezes, who both emphasized the importance of collaboration between academia and industry in training highly qualified engineers.

The event also welcomed representatives from the Office of the Secretary of State for Modernization and Digitalization, Dr. João Saraiva and Dr. Vasco Amaral, who highlighted the initiative’s relevance for the advancement of engineering and digital transformation in Portugal.

The audience’s active participation throughout the day demonstrated the growing interest in electronic engineering, consolidating JEE25 as a hub for knowledge sharing, innovation, and networking.

The event featured industry experts and leaders, who shared insights and experiences with students:

📌 “Leadership in the Digital Era” – Moderated by Vítor Ribeiro, co-founder of Publed and PlaySolana, with speakers Alexandre Fonseca, Business Executive Advisor, and Alcino Lavrador, Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Microelectronics Agenda.

📌 “Industry 4.0 vs. 5.0” – Led by Professor Vitor Monteiro, the panel featured João Figueiredo, CEO of CarmoWood, José Pedro Castanheira from Your New Brand, and Joaquim Moreira from Siemens.

📌 “Artificial Intelligence and Its Ethical Challenges” – Moderated by José Rui Gomes, IT Manager at the Department of Industrial Electronics, with speakers António Brandão, Director of Organization and Information Systems & Cybersecurity Lead at Metro do Porto, and João Martins, Senior Manager at NOESIS.

📌 “Electronics in Space” – Moderated by Professor Alexandre Ferreira da Silva, responsible for the Prometheus-1 satellite, with speakers Pedro Andrade, Aerospace Engineering Master’s student and member of the Prometheus-1 development team, Francisco Ferreira and Maria Abreu, project engineers at CEiiA involved in the MH-1 development, and João Paulo Monteiro, researcher at IST NanosatLab, working on the ISTSat-1 project.

On February 20, 2025, JEE25 concluded with company visits and a closing ceremony, reinforcing the event’s impact on students’ academic and professional development.

Throughout the morning and early afternoon, students had the opportunity to visit leading companies, including Synopsys, CEiiA, Aptiv, DST, Centi, Leica, Vishay, Controlar, HFA, and Petrotec. These visits provided first-hand insights into industrial and technological realities, helping consolidate the knowledge acquired during the event and expand students’ professional networks.

At the end of the day, the closing ceremony gathered students, professors, and industry representatives to reflect on four days of intensive learning and networking. The event was led by Gabriel Pinto, Director of the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Electronic Engineering and Computers, and Professor Vitor Monteiro, a key contributor to the event’s organization.

In his speech, Gabriel Pinto emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between academia and industry, reinforcing that events like JEE25 are crucial for the technical and interpersonal skills development of future engineers. Professor Vitor Monteiro thanked everyone involved and praised the active participation of students, which contributed to making this edition a resounding success.

With a positive outcome and a strong impact on the academic community, JEE25 reaffirmed itself as an essential event in the training of electronic engineers at the University of Minho, fostering knowledge, innovation, and career opportunities for the future.

The 7th edition of JEE25 provided students with invaluable exposure to the professional world through an extensive program that included workshops, roundtable discussions, lectures, speed interviews, and a job fair.
